The South Sudanese/American fashion model is being recognised for her global impact, having “dominated the industry over the last 12 months”.

The award recognises her evolution “into a cultural icon and redefined what it means to be a modern supermodel”.

Over the last year, Yai “has solidified her position as one of the most in-demand faces of the industry”, starring on the cover of Vogue France, fronting Versace, Alaïa and Saint Laurent campaigns, and continuing her role as the face of Mugler’s Alien fragrance.

The citation also recognises an influence “that continues to extend beyond the catwalk”… recently credited as creative director on her Perfect Magazine shoot, “underscoring her growing role in shaping visual culture”.

Yai said: “Being named Model of the Year is such an honour. My journey… is one of resilience and community. This recognition is for everyone who’s ever seen their story in mine.”
